The road is dusty (a lot of dust). They use the road as access to the hydroelectric power station, you can take a taxi. The day is sunny and the feeling of approaching walking to this place is very pleasant through the vegetation by the Inca trail to Machu Picchu.
From the hydroelectric power station the road is followed by the train, it is even more comfortable to be surrounded by jungle vegetation.
The town of Santa Teresa
The Peruvian district of Santa Teresa is one of the nine districts of the Province of La Convención, located in the Department of Cusco, under the administration of the regional government of Cusco.
Geography.- Its capital the town of Santa Teresa is to 1811 msnm, on the right margin of the Urubamba river.
How to get to Santa Teresa:
There are two ways to get there:
A.- By road: from Ollantaytambo, through the Private Reserve Abra Málaga3 (4,350 masl), surrounding the Urubamba Nevado, passing through Ipal. They are 152 km that are made in about 5 hours.
B.- By train: from Ollantaytambo, through Machu Picchu, to the final station called Hidroelectrica de Santa Teresa. This tour takes only 3 hours.
Tourism.- Santa Teresa, has become in recent years an alternative route to visit Machu Picchu crossing the cocoa and coffee plantations. It is just 14 km from Machu Picchu.
Thermal baths of Cocalmayo.- composed of 3 pools of different sizes, temperatures and depth. It has showers, dressing rooms and kiosks made of wood and carved stone that respects the natural environment. Located only 10 min by bus from the center. There are places of comping in the area and it is open 24 hours
Choquequirao.- From Santa Teresa it is also possible to visit this importanete Regional Conservation Area and the archaeological complex itself.
Adventure Sports.- Like trekking, rafting, kayaking and canopy monkey tail.
Santa Teresa to Machu Picchu with a trip:
Our adventure is when we leave the city of Cusco with northwest direction, moving on a tourist bus, we will go through the villages of Chincheros, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo from where we will take the road to Quillabamba passing through the open Malaga (4,315 masl) from where we will undertake our Tour, here we can appreciate the beautiful landscape of mountains, snowy, vegataciones, and start descending. We will pass and visit towns like Huayopata, Huyro and Santa María, where we will meet with the Vilcanota River, then take the Inca Trail to Santa Teresa where we will spend the night. Very early in the morning we head to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu "Wonder of the World", walking (3 hours) or by hydroelectric railway to Machu Picchu of the town, where we will board a bus that will take us to the citadel of Machu Picchu, then return In the afternoon to the town of Santa Teresa. We return to the city of Cusco by the same route of the first day.
