Hello! The Huaraz Santa Cruz trek sounds thrilling. The Santa Cruz trail is one of the most popular in the Cordillera Blanca, offering stunning views of mountains, flower-filled meadows, and turquoise glacial lakes. This world-famous circuit crosses the Cordillera Blanca via Punta Unión Pass, reaching an elevation of 4750 m.
The Santa Cruz trek is a 4-day, 3-night hike through the Cordillera Blanca in the Peruvian Andes. The "White Range" gets its name from the snow-covered peaks and makes up most of Huascarán National Park. Interestingly, it is also the world’s largest tropical mountain range! The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its incredible biodiversity and also recognized as a Biosphere Reserve.
The trek begins in the village of Vaquería at 3700 m and ends in Cashapampa at 2900 m. The trail is well-marked and relatively easy to follow. On the first day, you’ll leave Huaraz early and drive 114 km over bumpy roads to Vaquería. From there, you’ll hike about 10 km through the Huaripampa Valley to the first overnight camp.
From Huaraz, we transfer to the village of Cashapampa at 2800 m / 9,186 ft by bus. We then hike up the narrow Santa Cruz gorge to Llamacorral at 3760 m / 12,335 ft. Approx. 4 to 5 hrs.
A peaceful hike through the picturesque Santa Cruz valley, passing queñual trees and two beautiful lagoons: Chinancocha and Orconcocha, until reaching the Taullipampa camp. Approx. 6 to 7 hrs.
We ascend to Punta Unión Pass at 4750 m / 15,583 ft, with spectacular views of snowy peaks like Taulliraju and Quitaraju. Then descend to the Huaripampa camp at 3700 m. Approx. 7 hrs.
We descend along the Huaripampa valley, observing farmland, then stop at Vaquería village where our bus awaits. Finally, we return to Huaraz. Approx. 6 to 7 hrs.
