The festivals of Cusco and the Inti Raymi were presented in a ceremony held at the Huaca Pucllana in the city of Lima

The emotional event was attended by more than 500 guests, including national authorities, mayors from all over the country, diplomats, and representatives from tourism companies and sponsors.

With the aim of strengthening the frank process of economic and touristic reactivation of Cusco and Peru, last night, Thursday, February 15, the National Presentation Ceremony of the Festivals of Cusco and Inti Raymi 2024 was held, organized by the Municipal Company of Celebrations and Tourism Promotion of Cusco (EMUFEC) of the Municipality of Cusco. The event was attended by the Mayor of Cusco, Luis Beltrán Pantoja Calvo, the Mayor of Miraflores, Carlos Canales, national authorities, from different provinces and districts of the country, diplomats, representatives of the armed forces and police, nationally, and entrepreneurs linked to the tourism sector and companies that will sponsor the upcoming festivals.

In his speech, the Mayor of Cusco and President of the General Shareholders’ Meeting of EMUFEC, General Luis Pantoja Calvo, expressed his satisfaction to be once again at Huaca Pucllana to invite all Peruvians and the world to the upcoming jubilee celebrations of the city and the magnificent Inti Raymi on June 24, which this year have the particularity of commemorating 80 years since its reinstatement back in 1944. “Today we do it from Lima, and in a month, on March 16, the international presentation from Miami, United States. Likewise, he announced that the strong promotion of Cusco will continue in 2025 with participation in the largest tourism fair in the world, such as FITUR in Madrid, Spain, and other important cultural events.

In turn, the chairman of the EMUFEC board, Rosendo Baca Palomino, announced that Cusco in the month of June will become the center of irradiation of culture, art, and expressions, artistic and traditional, starting with the Corpus Christi celebration on May 30, followed by an intense program of approximately 14 parades that will involve the participation of our students, universities, higher institutes, and institutional parades that will have their greatest expression in the Grand Civic Parade on June 23. He also announced that there will be various concerts, cultural exhibitions, and others, culminating on June 24 with the commemoration of the great Sun Festival, Inti Raymi, on the stages of Qorikancha, the Main Square, and the esplanade of Saqsaywaman.

At the same time, the Mayor of Miraflores, Carlos Canales Anchorena, highlighted the remarkable impetus given by the Mayor of Cusco, Luis Pantoja, to develop this activity from Huaca Pucllana for the second consecutive year. He recalled that a few weeks ago, he also participated in the regional presentation of the festivals of Cusco, held at the great Qorikancha of the city of Cusco, while also acknowledging the effort and great work carried out by EMUFEC to promote tourism and culture. He recognized the work of the chairman of the board, Rosendo Baca Palomino, at the helm of the entire team of the company founded 36 years ago to organize the festivals of Cusco.

After the protocol part concluded, the Inca ritual ceremony called “Fiesta del Sol: An Invitation to Inti Raymi 2024” took place, highlighting the relationship between man and nature. The Inca, personified by Robert Pauccará, and the Qoya, represented by the young woman from Cusco, Siwar Qente Bajioperak, presided over the rituals of fire, coca, the preparation of sacred Chicha, and the reading of the khipus. In their interpretations, Andean priests prophesied a good year ahead for our people, in terms of work, health, and prosperity for the inhabitants. The ritual concluded with the emotional rendition of the notes of the Himno del Qosqo (Anthem of Cusco) by all attendees, while atop Huaca Pucllana, two gigantic and multicolored flags of Cusco proudly waved.
